Maths Tuition (Third Learning Space)

No impact for Primary maths

Intervention description

Third Space Learning is an organisation which offers online one-to-one maths tuition for primary school pupils. Teachers choose the number of pupils who will participate and set a day and time which suits their timetable. They then select individual learning outcomes from a curriculum map (as well as any additional comments about which methods should be used, for example). Pupils then communicate one-to-one with their tutor through a headset. Each session lasts 45 minutes. Reports are generated from the sessions, which help teachers to track their pupils' progress and suggest next steps.

The tutors are maths graduates from India who are recruited and trained by Third Space Learning - they have partnered with the Institute of Education for training and professional development. Each pupil keeps the same tutor each week, and sessions are recorded and observed by the Third Space Learning academic team to identify best practice.

Staffing requirements

Each session takes place under the supervision of a Session Administrator (often a teaching assistant or IT technician), and up to 10 pupils can take part in a session.
