Not evaluated for Primary maths

Intervention description

MathsFacts in a Flash aims to develop automaticity in mathematics. The intervention is provided by Renaissance Learning. It is a computerised database of mathematical problems designed to provide intense practice of mental computational skills.

MathsFacts in a Flash gives pupils practice on their addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals and percentages. It builds fluency in mathematics and encourages algebraic thinking.

Pupils take practice tests on an online system using a computer or tablet device. The intervention uses both practice exercises and tests to monitor progress and reinforce established facts. Data reports inform teachers' instructional decisions, signals places where intervention might be necessary, and motivates pupils to take ownership of their own practice.

There are five basic steps to implementing MathsFacts in a Flash:

  1. Baseline test
  2. Personalised practice
  3. Timed test for mastery
  4. Instant feedback
  5. Automatic advancement
