Read-Write Inc. Phonics
Read-Write Inc. Phonics is a phonics programme aimed primarily at Reception and Key Stage 1 pupils. It is part of the Read-Write Inc. series of literacy programmes for primary and secondary age children. Resources are published by Oxford University Press.
The programme involves a combination of teacher modelling, partner teaching and discussion. Training and in-school support are available from Ruth Miskin Literacy Training. Schools receive two whole-school training days plus between three to six developmental days per year.
The Best Evidence Encyclopaedia (2009) judged that there were no studies into the effectiveness of Read-Write Inc. which met its criteria for inclusion.
The Education Endowment Foundation is currently running a project investigating the effectiveness of Read-Write Inc. and its equivalent programme for struggling readers in KS2, Fresh Start. The evaluation should be available in summer 2019.
