Intervention description

Rigby Star is a family of reading programmes aimed at pupils in Foundation Stage and KS1. The elements include: Rigby Star Guided, a set of 218 books to be used for guided reading sessions; Rigby Star Independent, a set of 202 books for independent pupil reading; and Rigby Star Shared, a set of 41 big books intended for use in whole-class teaching. All of the sets include both fiction and non-fiction texts, and come with teaching versions. Rigby Star Toolbox is the last element, which is a set of resources to aid teachers’ assessment and planning in reading.

Evidence Summary

The Best Evidence Encyclopaedia (2009) judged that there were no studies into the effectiveness of Rigby Star which met its criteria for inclusion.
