Intervention description

Spellodrome is an interactive web-based spelling intervention for primary school pupils. Central to Spellodrome is a large bank of activities mapped to the primary curriculum requirements for spelling, which are completed by pupils individually within school time. Teachers can create their own drag and drop word lists, selecting from a bank of over 10,000 words covering all major international English dialects. Activities are then focussed around the words the teacher wishes to target – these lists can be weekly spelling lists or specified for a class spelling group to allow for differentiation.

Within Spellodrome there is a Teacher Console, which provides tools for tracking pupils’ usage, progress and improvement and access to real-time data to enable quick diagnosis of troublesome word and letter patterns. Another element of the intervention is Live Spellodrome, which involves pupils competing against classmates and other pupils of a similar level around the world in spelling games. Subscribing schools can access thousands of pages of printable worksheets and workbooks (all tailored to the spelling programs within Spellodrome), enabling wider exploration of areas such as comprehension, grammar and language. Spellodrome is also available for use at home, as parents can purchase a home subscription.
